It’s not easy to get letters published in major newspapers as they receive hundreds every day. To improve your chances
- Check and follow the rules for Letters to the Editor for your newspaper
- Keep it short – Check on the number of words accepted by your newspaper
- Make one or two points only
- Send it to one newspaper only
- Do not expect to be published more than once a week.
- Do not send the same letter again
- Don’t abuse anyone
- Respond to a story published in the paper – send your letter the same day, the earlier the better.
- Disclose who you are if relevant – this may not be disclosed
- Include sources to back up what you say – these may not be published
