First, you don’t have to be a grandmother – or even be able to knit! You can choose to get involved in any of our actions at whatever level suits you and there is no joining fee.
Read the Knitting Nannas’ Nannafesto. If you agree with this –

In this 60 Second Doc Janet explains what the Nannas do.
Advocacy
- Hold politicians to account and ensure they keep their promises
- Hold companies to account for their environmental impacts
- Join with other groups to advocate for the protection of communities and vulnerable species.
Community Awareness
- Share information and resources to inform the broader community
- Spread the word in our communities about emerging environmental threats
- Demonstrate the many ways everyone can be part of the climate and environment movement – in our homes or on the streets.
Actions
See our calendar of events, click on events you are interested in, then go to Add to Calendar and add them to your Google, Apple, Outlook or other calendar.
Nannas have different skills and people learn in different ways, so we use art, crafts, music, writing, photography, performance and letter writing in our activism.
We support Knitting Nanna loops (groups) and other NSW environment groups which are working on local issues. We enjoy plotting, and add some lightness and fun to events when we can.
No pressure
It is up to you how much you want to be involved in the Nannas – we’re an informal and flexible group. You can come and go if you have other commitments or want to travel. You can stay home and still be involved.
See our list of teams to give you an idea of how you might get involved and who does what, but there is no rush to sign up for anything.
You can also choose how you want to communicate with us. Please read the communication information.
Contact Us

We look forward to meeting you on Zoom or in person at a meeting or event – we hope you’ll come away feeling better about the world by getting involved and doing something about it
