The Traditional Owners of Zenadth Kes (the Torres Strait Islands and surrounding seas) are asking for our help to save their homelands from destruction by climate change. As the sea levels rise their homes, burial grounds, fresh water, crops and sacred sites are being damaged.
Eight Torres Strait Islanders, called the Torres Strait 8 are fighting the Australian Government’s attempt to have a landmark human rights complaint dismissed by the United Nations.
They accuse the Commonwealth of breaching their fundamental rights to culture and life by failing to adequately address climate change.
