Cultural Heritage Protection

We all remember that in May 2020 Rio Tinto blew up the 46,000 year old Juukan gorge cave system – a sacred site of immense importance to Aboriginal traditional owners and to the world. We learnt from this just how abysmal the protections for the many thousands of sacred places across the country really are.

A cross-party Senate Inquiry heard evidence from experts for a year and in October they made strong recommendations for action.

Since then nothing has happened, so tragedies like Juukan gorge can happen again.

Please join the urgent calls for a new framework which legislates the rights of traditional owners to block destruction of cultural heritage. Tell federal MPs you expect them to speak up and act for urgent changes.
