A just transition requires community input

The NSW government has set up a transition fund for mining communities. This is great news and a win for all the people working together in those communities to spell out what a just transition could look like.

We have a chance to tell  the government that all local community stakeholders should have a say in how the funding is spent. The draft legislation leaves decision making with the Minister for Regional NSW without any requirement that decisions be in the public interest.

We can also call for a bigger fund than $25m.
