The Minns’ government is negotiating with Origin Energy to extend the life of Eraring power station at taxpayers’ expense. It would cost around $150 million per year, and spew out more emissions than the entire NSW passenger vehicle fleet of 4.4 million vehicles.
This is a real test of the government’s election promise to speed up the transition to renewables and to use taxpayer funds to help. Will they listen to the alternative energy solutions, or subsidise Origin Energy to slow down the transition?
