The NSW Environment and Water Ministers could sign off on river water sharing plans that ignore experts’ recommendations and lock in a decade of unsustainable levels of irrigation in the northern Murray-Darling Basin.
More massive allocations of water to big irrigators will result in dry river-beds and more fish kills.
These water sharing plans for inland rivers, include the Gwydir, Namoi-Peel, Macquarie/Wambuul, Lachlan, Murrumbidgee and Barwon-Darling/Baaka. The plans need to be assessed by the independent Natural Resources Commission to see if they meet their objectives of keeping ecosystems healthy.
Greens MLC, Cate Faehrmann, has made it easy for us to email the Ministers responsible.
