Macquarie Bank has made a new multi-million dollar investment decision to support and speed up Tamboran’s gas fracking in the Beetaloo Basin.
Opposition to fracking the Beetaloo has been loud and clear, but Macquarie doesn’t seem to be listening. In a vote at the July AGM about 35% of shareholders, including some of the big super funds, expressed concern at the bank’s support for fossil fuel projects and their retreat from the environmental, social and governance framework (ESG).
For years Traditional Owners, climate scientists and environmentalists have explained from their different perspectives why fracking the Beetaloo basin must not happen. There’s so much at stake: climate, First Nations culture, water and land.
We must not give up now on stopping the money that threatens to lock gas into our energy future for decades.
So this week let’s write directly to Macquarie Bank CEO, Ms Shemara Wikramanayake, using the draft email by Market Forces. Renewables not fracked gas is our cry.
