Action of the Week 25 May 2026

This petition is by Bronwyn Wannan, Secretary of the Mudgee Region Action Group, and its to the NSW Parliament. It closes tomorrow, 26 May.

Bowdens Silver is trying to develop a toxic lead, zinc and silver mine at Lue, a small village near Mudgee.

Community groups in the region have fought hard to stop the mine, and in 2024 they even managed to have its approval by the Independent Planning Commission overturned in the NSW Appeals Court.

But Bowdens isn’t giving up – they have a new proposal in the planning system. Following an assessment by the Department of Planning it will be referred to the Independent Planning Commission again for determination.

There’s a lot at stake here. As Bron says: “In addition to poisoning our waterways, pastures, air and children, the proposed open-cut lead mine will destroy our region’s reputation for clean agricultural produce, quality wine and as one of Australia’s most beloved regional tourism destinations.”
