The Independent Planning Commission hearing of Glencore’s application to expand and extend Hunter Valley Operations coal mine has now finished. The three-day hearing created an extraordinary body of evidence about why this massive project should not be approved.
All the evidence is available on the IPC’s website – scientists, lawyers, economists speaking out against the project. Ordinary people too, telling of their experiences of climate change induced extreme weather events. There were many extraordinary stories of families surviving fires, droughts and floods, and losing their homes and belongings.
So what else will help? It’s important there are more personal submissions objecting to the project. Please have your say this week. There’s information on Lock the Gate’s website to help you get going. The main thing is to write in your own words – short submissions are fine.
