Chat for Syd Knitting Nannas & Friends [ChatNannas]
Everyone in the group can send emails to this smaller group to recommend news articles, actions and events. Please state clearly what it’s about in the subject line and provide a small blurb about the content. If you want to thank someone for a post please reply to sender, rather than reply all. Contact us to be included or excluded from this group.
You can be notified by email when a new post is posted on the website by going to the bottom of any page and typing in your email address in Subscribe or Follow Us. About 3-5 new articles are posted on the website each week.
- Action of the Week is posted Monday morning. It’s usually an easy action people can take like signing a petition or sending a form letter to an MP
- This Week’s Good News is posted on Friday or Saturday – a selection of good environmental news stories with links
- A weekly newsletter is posted early in the week on what Nannas did last week with links, photos etc.
- A post on issues important to us – this may be a letter to a politician, or an explainer article.
You can also choose which posts you want to receive. To unsubscribe from all or some of the posts go to your last email, scroll down to Manage your email settings or unsubscribe. If this is all too hard, contact us and we will do it for you.
Social media
The Social Media Team co-ordinates the following:
Facebook – event information, event reports, selected stories on our main issues, fun stuff – target is older folk
X and Bluesky– as above but the audience wants news. It’s where journalists go to find stories.
Instagram – Make reels from videos and photographs of major events and post good images of other actions for a young audience.
YouTube – videos and reels/shorts
Phone Apps
We use several Apps for different purposes.
Texts – use your preferred texting app to text individuals.
WhatsApp– Friday Knit-in at Convent (Initially set up for a Friday Knit-in at Convention Centre but the name was too long). Best for new Sydney Nannas.
- Share links
- Arrange for Sydney Nannas to meet up at events
- Sydney Nannas general discussion
Signal has end-to-end encryption and commits to never collecting user data. Photos for the media should be sent via Signal as they have better resolution. You need to download the App and asked to be put on the list. Our groups are:
- Sydney Media – send best photos and videos of Sydney Nannas’ activities to our Media team (not for chat). Include short description of what is is about, how many people there and the speakers etc.
- Media Nannas – send description, best photos and videos of activities attended by many NSW Nanna loops’ (groups) for them to use on their media
- Cranky Nannas – send information of forthcoming events in regional areas or major events in Sydney, and discussions and planning between different Nanna loops
- A new Signal group is created for organising major events
Contact us to be added to a group.
When using WhatsApp and Signal please press on a message and choose an emojis to give feedback to help reduce traffic.
