NSW Government justifies more coal

The latest proposal to expand coal mining in NSW is the Mount Pleasant Optimisation Project near Muswellbrook. The project is with the Independent Planning Commission with advice from the Department of Planning that it’s approvable.

The plan is to keep mining at the Mount Pleasant open cut thermal coal mine until 2048, to clear more land to make it bigger and to dig much deeper. The amount of coal extracted and the emissions would be massive.

The Department’s report justifies the project going ahead on the authority of the Perrottet government’s strategic statement on coal exploration and mining, which includes support for expanding coal mining for export well into the future.

Have your say here

Have you noticed this is the fifth Nannas’ Action of the Week this year about a plan to expand coal mining, by extending a mine or opening up areas for exploration?  Our state government is hiding the truth about coal mine emissions and facilitating destruction of the environment. Please tell them it’s got to stop!
