The Commonwealth Bank has lent $7 billion to fossil mining corporations in the last 5 years. Now they want to increase their lending to Santos gas projects to US$1 billion.

Australia has masses of gas – there’s no need for more destruction. But in NSW Santos is moving ahead with the Narrabri coal seam gas project in the Pilliga forest, in the face of its rejection by Gomeroi traditional owners, farmers and environmentalists. Now the NSW government has handed Santos exploration licences to turn prime agricultural land into a gasfield on the Liverpool Plains.

In the NT their Barossa offshore gasfield would emit over 15 million of tonnes of greenhouse gas every year. The Tiwi Islanders and the Larrakia people have not been properly consulted, and are standing up against the project.

CommBank tells the Australian people “We’re building a brighter future for us all”.

Not so. Every day they fund gas projects they invest in destroying the future. Tell them gas is on the nose and ask them to invest in projects that will build a clean and secure future.
