Sydney Nannas out and about despite the weather

National Koala Day Rally: Sydney Knitting Nannas met up with Manly Nannas and members of the Animal Justice Party, Bob Brown Foundation and other groups at Manly Beach on 30 September to protest about NSW’s endangered koala population.

After speeches on the beach, the group marched to the NSW Minister for the Environment’s office to the beat of the Extinction Rebellion drums. However the Minister, James Griffin, did not come out and meet the protesters despite persistent drum beating and chanting. Wild winds and rain held off, almost to the end, when the weather went ballistic.

A koala has appeared in the window of the Manly Co-op!

Information Session
Last week Sydney Nannas invited other loops to join with them on a Zoom meeting with Felicity Wade from LEAN (Labor Environment Action Group) about how LEAN was formed and what they do. Nannas were also given advice on how to build up a good relationship with their Labor MPs.

Campaign against government subsidies for gas
Nannas have been meeting with their federal MPs to request they stop gas subsidies. This week three Nannas from Linda Burney’s electorate of Barton delivered a letter to her, voicing their alarm at Labor’s support for new fossil fuel projects. They then held a knit-in outside her Kogarah office to push for stronger climate action from the Albanese government.

Nanna Kathy met with Dan Repacholi in his office in Cessnock. They discussed the Kurri Kurri Gas Plant, the Hunter Gas Pipeline and the Lidell Power Plant site for hydrogen production.
