Call to Action

NAB - climate banking failure

Last week Market Forces lifted the lid on the big four banks and their climate wrecking loans to coal mining corporations.

They have lent $10.7 billion to the coal industry since the Paris Agreement was signed.

This week’s action is to contact NAB, which has increased its lending for coal mining. Just in the first six months of this year they have lent $630 million to coal.

Whitehaven Coal, well-known for its environmental wrecking in the north-west of NSW, has a $110,00 loan from NAB. They are looking to refinance the loan this month as they plan three new coal mines – two in NSW and one in Queensland.

NAB needs to hear from us that funding coal expansion in a climate emergency is morally irresponsible.

Let’s throw our weight behind Move Beyond Coal’s call to action – they have great resources to help us to work on NAB. It’s up to you whether you visit a branch or contact the bank by phone or email.
