This week please support National Heritage listing for Exmouth Gulf in WA by writing to Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek. The heritage listing would help protect one of the world’s last great wild areas from industrialization.
The Gulf is recognized as the Ningaloo’s Nursery because it provides protection and a nursery for marine species including humpback whales, dugongs, turtles, dolphins and birdlife.
Two major industrial projects are currently threatening the future of the Gulf
- Industrial saltworks – a huge salt production and barging operation
- Gascoyne Gateway Industrial Port which is planned for an area with a rich diversity of corals, seagrass meadows, sponge gardens as well as vulnerable birds and marine animals. It would attract massive ships, offshore oil and gas support vessels and cruise liners.
Please sign the Australian Marine Conservation Society’s letter to Tanya Plibersek
