Close the loophole for shale gas

Water trigger

The Albanese government has promised a water trigger for shale gas fracking in the new Environmental Protection & Biodiversity Act. But the law reform process will take too long to protect NT’s water. Call on Tanya Plibersek to amend the legislation now so there is independent assessment of the risks to NT water supplies. Sign the petition.

Research has revealed that gas is bubbling to the surface in NT groundwater, raising grave concerns about “critical knowledge gaps” in the water studies on which the fracking approval was based.

There will be an opportunity for politicians in both houses of federal parliament to vote for a water trigger amendment.
