The Albanese Government is considering billions in extra funding for the Middle Arm gas hub, which will fast-track fracking in the Beetaloo Basin.
This fossil fuel subsidy goes against Labor’s commitment to climate and First Nations justice, with Traditional Owners across the Northern Territory standing up for water, Country and cultural heritage – all at risk.
But the deal isn’t done yet. Right now, the Northern Territory Government is asking for additional federal funding for the Middle Arm gas hub on top of the $1.9 billion already promised.
And now, Treasury is calling for pre-budget submissions – a process we know gas corporations will be flooding to secure the funding they need to process and export fracked gas.
Instead call for the $3.5 billion the gas industry wants from taxpayers to be spent on the transition of energy and exports away from fossil fuels. Taxpayer dollars are also desperately needed for public education, health and cost of living help.
Ask Infrastructure Minister Catherine King and Treasurer Jim Chalmers to say No Way to funding the expansion of fossil gas, carbon capture and storage, plastics and blue hydrogen at Middle Arm.
