Knitting Nannas Media Release: Where and When: Wednesday 29th May from 10-11.30 am. Parliament House Tea Ladies will join Nannas for raising awareness and gas alert at the corner Alinga St and Northbourne Avenue Canberra from 10-11.30am.
Thursday 30th May Parliament House Tea Ladies will join Knitting Nannas Kitchen Table Cabinet with Knitting Nannas, friends and guests on Parliament House lawn Canberra 10-2pm.
Tea ladies from Parliament House will walk off the job today and join Knitting Nannas on the streets of Canberra to protest against the Federal Government’s continuing support for coal and gas.
“There were already unacceptably high levels of gas in the House, and not just in the kitchens” said a spokeswoman for the tea ladies, “and now the Future Gas Strategy has pushed us over the edge”.
“We’re done serving up cups of tea to politicians captured by special interests” she went on, “they can get the Minerals Council to bring them their elevenses in future”.
Instead the tea ladies in their distinctive black-and-white outfits will be out and about, offering a cuppa to Canberra residents in shopping centres and other popular locations.
“We’re inviting Canberrans to share our love of a High Tease” said the ladies’ spokeswoman, “we have a number of special blends available, including the LNP Peaked Tea, Barnaby’s Brew, and the Chris Bowen Boxed-In Set”.
On Thursday the tea ladies will join Knitting Nannas at their Kitchen Table Cabinet on the lawns of Parliament House.
“if the Honourable Members are missing their cuppa” said Nanna Maree “they can join us and the tea ladies for a fresh brew and a serious yarn about what climate change is doing to our country”.
Nannas from regional NSW have first-hand experience. Nanna Judi from Eltham, near Lismore, had water through both houses on her property and was evacuated during the February 2022 floods. She is still feeling the trauma of that day.
“Prime Minister Albanese came to Lismore during the floods and told us that because of climate change, we’re getting more weather events and they’re more intense” says Nanna Judi “but his government is still approving new coal and gas projects”.
“We’re inviting him to come on down for a cuppa and listen to Australians like us who are directly affected by climate change.
You don’t have to read the tea leaves to know There Is NO More Time. We must act. And we will. We hope you will join us.
