We have legislation to regulate climate pollution so we meet the state’s legislated emissions targets. We have a Net Zero Commission – an independent group responsible for providing advice to the government about meeting the targets. Their first report sounds the alarm that we aren’t on track and that the 20 new coal projects in the planning system are a problem.
A cross-party parliamentary committee has recommended that the Net Zero Commission do a further report urgently on coal mining expansions.
Our action this week is to write to our local NSW MPs and the Minister for Climate asking them to act to keep the state on track to meet its targets for 2030 and 2035. There’s some background information from Lock the Gate to help you send a personal message.
