For weeks now we’ve been writing to Environment Minister Sharpe asking her to stop the logging in Pine Creek forest.
So far she hasn’t, but in spite of the logging going ahead there is still a corridor of trees linking the Bongil Bongil and Bindarri forests.
So we’re not giving up, are you with us?
There are probably only a few days left for Penny Sharpe to save the corridor through Pine Creek that’s essential for the long term survival of koalas.
The Minister says that state forests designated as plantations will be logged.
We say an exception should be made for Pine Creek because of the forest corridor and the fact that the forest is not at all like a plantation. It contains a mixture of trees including old growth native forest trees that koalas love.
These are both good reasons to change the tenure of Pine Creek forest to something that reflects its nature and importance – we are asking that it be designated a State Conservation Area now to stop the logging.
The current logging plan will leave an isolated koala hub in the forest, but it will not save the koalas.
