It’s time to talk to our super funds about climate change. They are responsible for our retirement savings and achieving good returns on our investments. Many of them have adopted net zero by 2050 policies, but we need to question what they are doing now to prevent climate disaster. Research by Market Forces shows some of the funds have helped to vote down shareholders’ climate action motions at the big banks’ AGMs.
Is your fund investing in the banks that have growing investments in the expansion of gas and coal mining and infrastructure? In the next couple of weeks our super funds will have opportunities to support shareholder motions calling for climate action at the AGMs of the banks they invest in.
We can urge them to take climate action by supporting shareholder motions at the coming AGMs of ANZ, NAB and Westpac. Market Forces have drafted an online letter and an easy way to contact your fund.
