In November 2023 Nanna Anna was our Nanna on the ground in Tasmania. In her “Walking with Giants” report she tells of the emotion she felt when meeting the huge eucalyptus trees of the Huon Valley Grove of Giants and Styx Valley. She feels a deep sadness at seeing the remnants of clear fell old growth native forests and the monocultures of the plantations which replace them.
Good news abounds at the Bob Brown Foundation Bio Blitz in Takayna where activists have halted a tailings dam and logging plan. Thanks to three days of volunteer field work lead by a team of scientists Nanna Anna leaves Tasmania with new knowledge, a better appreciation of the minutiae and a plan to return in 2024.
