Influential mass media corporations that dominated prior to the internet are losing their audience. Australians are looking for new places to get their news.
During the summer holidays, Nannas had discussions with people who were fed up with the so-called old, traditional, legacy or mainstream media. They said they had switched off from the news because the media outlets
- propagated hate and anger,
- attributed blame before the facts were known,
- utilised unprincipled reporting to get a reaction to feed algorithms
- spread mis and disinformation
But not all media outlets are like that! Members of Local & Independent News Association (LINA) must publish high-quality public interest news that meets the LINA Editorial Standards and adhere to Australian Press Council’s Principles and Standards of Practice. So give them a go.
