Santos has ramped up gas extraction in the Pilliga Forest under its exploration licence, deploying a type of drilling rig known as a flushby rig 40km south of Narrabri. They are conducting production enhancement and well suspensions, industry jargon for remedial works aimed at preparing gas wells for production.

Say No to Santos Protest
Five Knitting Nannas attended the Say No to Santos Protest outside Santos’ office in Sydney on Thursday. Nannas have long been campaigning against Santos’ Narrabri Gas Project which includes 850 coal seam wells on Gomeroi land in the Pilliga Forest and surrounding farmlands in north west NSW.

Anniversary of Bibblewindi spill
A toxic mixture of salt, chemicals and water from the coal seams spilled out of the Bibblewindi Water Treatment Plant in the Pilliga Forest 10 years ago on 25th June. These photographs, taken since 2015, show how hard it is to regrow vegetation on this site.
