First, you don’t have to be a grandmother – or even be able to knit! You can choose to get involved in any of our actions at whatever level suits you and there is no joining fee.
Sydney Knitting Nannas and Friends is a disorganisation — there is no hierarchy, there is no formal signing up mechanism and no dues to pay. We are a group of enthusiastic women who have a lot to give to improve our planet and to safeguard it for the kiddies. You’ll meet new people, have fun together and help us reach our climate goals and make the planet a more liveable place.
Read the Knitting Nannas’ Nannafesto. If you agree with this — Contact Us — chat to Marie or Kathy about your interests and you will be included.
Tell us where you live so we can find a mentor for you, usually someone close-by so you can meet up for coffee and travel together to events.
Advise us if you would like to:
1. receive a link to our Friday Zoom meeting at 9.30am,
2. go to our next monthly Friday meeting at 10am at Circular Quay,
3. be advised when our next Craft meeting is on in Glebe.

When coming to a meeting or an event, advise Marie of your t-shirt size so she can bring one with her for you.
In this 60 Second Doc Janet explains what the Nannas do.
Advocacy
Knitting Nannas
- hold politicians to account and ensure they keep their promises,
- hold companies to account for their environmental impacts,
- join with other groups to advocate for the protection of communities and vulnerable species.
Community Awareness
Knitting Nannas
- share information and resources to inform the broader community,
- spread the word in our communities about emerging environmental threats,
- demonstrate the many ways everyone can be part of the climate and environment movement – in our homes or on the streets.
Actions
See our calendar of events, click on events you are interested in, then go to Add to Calendar and add them to your Google, Apple, Outlook or other calendar.
Nannas have different skills and people learn in different ways, so we use art, crafts, music, writing, photography, performance and letter writing in our activism.
We support Knitting Nanna loops (groups) and other NSW environment groups which are working on local issues. We enjoy plotting, and add some lightness and fun to events whenever we can.
No pressure
It is up to you how much you want to be involved in the Nannas — we’re an informal and flexible group. You can come and go if you have other commitments or want to travel. You can stay home and still be involved.
Our list of teams give you an idea of who does what and how you might get involved, but there is no rush to sign up for anything if you’d prefer to take it slowly.
You can also choose how you want to communicate with us. Please read the communication information.

We look forward to meeting you on Zoom or in person at our next meeting or event — we hope you’ll come away feeling better about the world by getting involved and doing something about it!
