Sydney Knitting Nannas and Friends joined other environmental groups on Saturday for the Koala Day of Action rally in Hyde Park to keep pressure on politicians to protect habitat across the state.
With the last rally cancelled due to extreme weather, the Nannas had waited months to show their koala umbrella and Nanna Elizabeth’s wall hanging.
Nannas call for a halt to
1. Lendlease’s destruction of Sydney’s last remaining koala habitat at Mt Gilead.
2. The continued plunder of virgin forest on the South Coast, the only remaining suitable woodland for koalas after the terrible fires of 2019.
Instead of protecting what’s left of our koalas after the Black Summer megafires, the NSW government has allowed loggers and the bulldozers to let rip in koala habitat across the state.
