Act on climate change – The parliament has legislated emissions reduction targets but we’re not on track to meet them. All MPs need to listen to the expert advice of the Net Zero Commission — targets won’t be met if coal mining keeps expanding. Three coal mining projects that would release around 1,115 mega tonnes of lifecycle emissions could be approved this year. Developing renewables is good but it’s not enough.
Declare the Great Koala National Park – We call for the full 176,000 hectares to protect koalas and other endangered species, and to benefit the climate and environment.
Rein in land clearing on private land – In 2023 it was out of control and it has increased since then. Act on expert advice on amending the Land Services Act. Nature Conservation Council Report
Save the rivers of the Murray Darling Basin and end mass fish kills. Chris Minns made this commitment on his first day in office, but our inland rivers are still mismanaged and in crisis. We call for the implementation of the NSW Connectivity Expert Panel’s report to restore environmental flows, and action on the water rights of First Nations people.
Reinstate real protection for Sydney’s drinking water – Labor committed to reinstate the full integrity of the Neutral or Beneficial Effect (NorBe) test to protect Sydney’s drinking water catchment but they have yet to do it. Centennial Coal and Energy Australia must be stopped from discharging polluted mine wastewater directly into Sydney’s drinking water. The parliament must act to protect the drinking water of five million people. Damaging Lithgow Mines.
