Our Christmas meeting at Customs House is on Friday 6 December and all Nannas and would-be-Nannas are welcome. There’s a couple of actions to do before we take a break until 2025.
Christmas meeting at Customs House
Our next meeting will be at Customs House, Circular Quay on Friday 6 December. This is a good place for new Nannas to meet the Nannas in person and decide if you want to join us more often. At Rising Tide we met a lot of Nannas who were interested in joining us, so we hope to see some of you at Customs House.
At 9.30am we will have some fun making our Christmas video in the courtyard out the front. When the library opens at 10am we will go to the meeting room on level 2 to record a song and have a meeting. At 12.15pm we will walk across the road to the Paragon Hotel for lunch. Contact us if you want to join us for lunch as we have a booking. You can join in at any time during the morning – best if you wear yellow for the video – but we will have spare t-shirts.

Wednesday, Thursday 11-12 December – Nuclear Public Hearings
Knitting Nannas are going to the federal government’s Inquiry into Nuclear Power Generation in Australia at both Lithgow and Sydney. Times for these events are still to be published on the website. Witnesses intending to speak at the public hearing should register no later than Wednesday, 4 December 2024.
Wednesday 11 December – Lithgow & District Workmen’s Club, Millenium Room, 3/7 Tank St, Lithgow – Register before.
Thursday 12 December – Sydney – Cliftons Sydney 13/60 Margaret Street.
This will be our last action in Sydney for 2024 unless the federal and/or state governments put out the rubbish just before Christmas, as often happens.
Rising Tide Wrap Up
Thank you to the Hunter Nannas and Rising Tide for hosting us in Newcastle. What a great time we had, and what a terrific job they did!
There is a Rising Tide fundraiser to help pay court costs, fines and other legal expenses of the 173 protestors charged at the People’s Blockade of the World’s Largest Coal Port, and the 22 people arrested at parliament house in Canberra. If there are any funds left over they will support Rising Tide’s work.
Sydney Nannas are writing a letter to the Mayor and Councillors of Newcastle in support of Rising Tide Blockade. The Deputy Mayor, Callum Pull (Liberal), has slammed the decision of the Mayor, Dr Ross Kerridge (former Labor now Independent), for enabling the event to go ahead. Councillor Pull worked for the Institute of Public Affairs until July 2023. The Institute is a right wing think tank associated with the Atlas Network.

Bulga Forest Defenders in Court
The initial mention against four Bulga Forest Defenders, Jane Watson, Margo Kingston, Jesse Witney and Sydney Nanna Bronwyn Vost was held in Taree Courthouse on Tuesday 26 November. A wonderful bunch of Bulga defenders including Nanna Helen showed up in support.
The hearing will be held on December 16, also at Taree. Supporters are invited to Taree the day before to have dinner, go spotlighting for greater gliders, stay overnight and go to the court in the morning. Contact us if you’re interested in joining in.
