The NSW government has promised to create the Great Koala National Park to protect koalas and other native species. This is an extremely welcome commitment – and it’s also significant climate action.

Koalas & Logging – information & questions for NSW election candidates
In 2012 the Koala was declared a Threatened Species. In June 2020 a NSW Upper House Inquiry found that koalas would be extinct in NSW by 2050 unless governments took urgent action to protect their habitat. Most of the evidence for this inquiry was taken before the 2019/20 bushfires when more than 5,000 koalas died. Big Canopy Camp
Sydney Knitting Nannas and Friends joined the Bob Brown Foundation and Save Sydney’s Koalas as part of the international Big Canopy Campout on Saturday 17th of September. Nannas Koala Team
Sydney Knitting Nannas has formed a Koala Team to research koalas, write letters to politicians, and help organise rallies with other groups. Koalas need large areas of undisturbed land to survive. Logging and land clearing for development are destroying their habitat in NSW.
Government plan does not protect koalas
