This week the Sydney Knitting Nannas and Friends attended Budget Estimates at parliament, a vigil to save the forests, and meetings for campaigns against coal and gas and AUKUS, and for the right to protest.

Before our meeting at Customs House on Friday, the Nannas did a photo shoot near the Opera House. Many Sydney visitors also took a photo of us so we will be seen all over the world.

A busy week for Nannas as one goes before the magistrate, many march on Australia/Invasion Day and others visit their MPs.

Nannas had an extra Zoom meeting this week to discuss events planned for this year. Our Crafty Nannas have also met up to discuss future projects. It’s shaping up to be a big year for us.
Nannas are back
Sydney Nannas are back in action, plotting and planning events and supporting others. We realised at our first Zoom meeting of the year that there’s a lot to keep us busy in 2024.
Wins of 2023
Before we say goodbye to 2023 let’s remember the wins the climate and environment movement had during the year. The movement’s increasing size, activism and diversity will amplify the call for governments to ban fossil fuels and stop native forest logging in 2024.

Sydney Knitting Nannas are now officially on holiday until 12 January when we will hold our next Zoom meeting. That is unless something urgent pops up. Check out our Christmas video.
Nannas partial win on protest laws
Two Knitting Nannas, Helen Kvelde and Dominique Jacobs took legal action to defend the right to protest in October 2022, after the NSW Government passed new laws following a series of climate-related demonstrations.
